•November 10, 2009 • Leave a CommentIn observance of Remembrance Day, November 11th, I thought it fitting to display some pics I took in September as the body of one of our fallen Canadian soldiers passed through Oshawa on the Highway Of Heroes. On that same day, a Canadian Navy ship, the HMCS Ville de Quebec, was in port visiting Oshawa and many of her crew showed up at the highway overpass to join the citizens of Oshawa as well as Oshawa firefighters to pay their respects. It was a very moving scene as the hearse and the vehicles of the soldier’s family and friends passed by below us…
Buckhorn – to the dump…
•November 8, 2009 • Leave a CommentFrom two summers ago…a quick grab shot through the windshield…at dusk, on the road to visit the Buckhorn town garbage dump…for a bit of bear-watching, a popular local attraction. Unfortunately, last December the town switched to a sealed refuse container system, so the poor bears have since had to look elsewhere for their snacks…including in Jodi’s backyard this year!

•November 6, 2009 • Leave a CommentA crab spider is one very cool arachnid. I’ve observed many over the years as they hide themselves in plain sight among a variety of blooms, patiently awaiting the arrival of unwary prey. They have the amazing ability to change their body colour to match that of the flower. The change takes place over a couple of days of sitting there. In this case, the spider is starting to take on the thistle’s purplish hue…two streaks on the abdomen and one across the head. To complete the illusion it then extends its crab-like forelegs upward in imitation of the petals…and then…waits…
